‘We’ve Covered This!’ Kristi Noem Bristles at Dana Bash’s Biting Questions About Dog-Gate in Tense CNN Interview
Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) has lowered her profile of late — following a series of rough interviews over the revelation from her memoir that she once shot and killed her dog. And immediately upon the South Dakota governor’s return to the Sunday morning talk show circuit, she was confronted with tough questions about the subject — questions which she did not seem eager to answer.
In a testy interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Noem grew impatient with the line of questioning from anchor Dana Bash.
“You shared a story about shooting and killing your 14-month old dog Cricket,” Bash said. “Now that you’ve had time to process all of that, in all candor, do you have regrets?”
Noem tried to write off the anecdote as a relic which was a very small part of her book.
“That story’s a 20 year old story of a mom who made a very difficult decision to protect her children from a vicious animal that was attacking livestock, and killing livestock, and attacking people,” Noem said. “So it’s in the book because it was difficult for me.”
Bash tried to follow up, but the governor jumped in before she could get her whole question out.
“So what I’m hearing is no regrets, not just about writing about it—” Bash said.
“We’ve covered this!” Noem replied, interjecting.
“—But about actually shooting the dog.” Bash said, finishing her question.
“We’ve covered this,” Noem said again. “And I’m a mom and protected my children from a vicious animal. We just had a 9-year-old boy in South Dakota killed just days ago from a dog. You know, that happens. And … the 9-year-old boy will never be in his parents’ lives again. He’ll never be in his family’s lives again … People are put in tough situations in life, and we learn from it.”
