ACLU Official Resigns Over Facebook Post About Shooting Trump Supporters
Earlier this week, Loring Wirbel––board member of the ACLU’s Colorado branch and co-chair of the Colorado Springs ACLU––posted a message on Facebook saying, “We have to really reach out to those who might consider voting for Trump and say, ‘This is Goebbels. This is the final solution. If you are voting for him I will have to shoot you before election day.'”
Now, naturally, saying something like that about Donald Trump supporters did not go over particularly well. And now Wirbel has resigned.
According to The Gazette, he stepped down from his position as co-chair of the Colorado Springs ACLU, despite defending the Facebook post as a joke.
He said, “It was intended totally as a joke. They are taking that stuff out of context. It’s smear politics.”
The Republican official who posted his status in the first place called it “outrageous” he would ever say something like that. The Colorado ACLU issued a statement distancing themselves from Wirbel’s comment.
