Alabama Debating Criminalization of Bestiality… ‘With Exemptions’

Currently, sexual conduct with animals is legal in 14 states and the District of Columbia, but that exclusive club could soon shrink by one member. The state of Alabama is currently weighing criminalization of bestiality after a bill to make this practice illegal was introduced in the state Senate.

The bill does, however, allow exemption for those who practice animal husbandry or anyone operating a veterinary practice. The bill was passed on Thursday with no debate and will head to the state’s House for approval.

“The lone dissenting vote was due to a common procedure in the Legislature, whereby a vote on a previous bill can be used for the next bill up for a vote,” reports AL.com’s Kyle Whitmire.
