Did Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson call out the president over his reported “shithole countries” remarks? It kinda seems like he did.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Carson spoke at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, letting the audience know that he doesn’t stand with President Donald Trump on every single issue.
I’m a member of this administration and I don’t agree with the president about everything that he says or of how it is said,” Carson stated, receiving applause from the attendees.
Later on, the one-time presidential candidate said that “if the way you say things is so inflammatory that people can’t hear your message, it is not helpful.” Carson added that this is the reason he doesn’t “do that anymore.”
Over the past few days, Trump has been accused of racism over reports that he called immigrants from Haiti and African nations “people from shithole countries” while asking why we don’t bring in more immigrants from Norway. Since the comments went public, the president and some GOP lawmakers have claimed that he didn’t say those words. Meanwhile, Trump has insisted to the press he’s the “least racist person you have ever interviewed.”
