The Kentucky Wildcats didn’t play to their normally high standards on Tuesday, as they struggled with conference foe Missouri — only defeating the woeful 7-20 Tigers by a 10 point margin. And things were really tight at the half, as Kentucky took a slender 31-30 lead into the locker room.
So it was quite likely that Kentucky coach John Calipari was already in a cranky mood when he met the SEC Network’s Laura Rutledge for a halftime interview. And his mood only got worse as the Missouri student section began heckling him during the chat.
“Cal, you suck! Cal, you suck!” The students chanted.
Calipari took one question from Rutledge, then began walking away as Rutledge started to ask a second. (Coaches usually field two questions from courtside reporters at the halftime break.) Calipari momentarily stopped walking and allowed Rutledge to ask her question.
“How would you describe this student section here?” She said.
The coach had no answer. He turned around and briskly walked away as the chants continued.
