California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom Gets Second Job As Current TV Host
Gavin Newsom, the lieutenant governor of California, is getting a gig at Current TV. In addition to serving his state, he’ll be hosting his own talk show on the progressive network, starting in May.
The Gavin Newsom Show, which will be weekly, is expected to be announced on Wednesday. According to the New York Times, “A Current spokeswoman said Mr. Newsom would be paid by the channel, but would not specify his salary. A representative for Mr. Newsom said that the payments would be donated to charity and would be disclosed in accordance with state law.”
Newsom was previously the mayor of San Francisco, and he will hold his current position in addition to starting the show. The specific time slot is still unknown, but “will likely be replayed several times on Saturdays and Sundays.”
Former politicians employed by Current are Jennifer Granholm and Eliot Spitzer, but, as the NYT notes, until now, the network “has not employed any sitting politicians.”
