Check In Here: Foursquare, The TV Show

So here’s one my wife will surely hate: a TV show that’s based on Foursquare, the service where you “check in” at various locations, let your friends know where you are, and if you do it enough, you can even become the “mayor” of a location like the Starbucks across the street from your office.

According to Andrew Wallenstein at Paid Content, Hollywood has come calling “in the hopes of developing a TV show.” The deal between Foursquare and producers Endemol USA–the folks behind reality shows like Big Brother and Deal Or No Deal–will likely involve a little more than contestants hitting Starbucks and Buy Buy Baby to check in and get coupons.

But a TV should could be a great marketing vehicle for Foursquare. Think some kind of Amazing Race-ish scenario, where mobile-wielding contestants run from one destination to the next. There would be some natural multiplatform components to such a program, which is rare given that’s typically awkwardly shoehorned into most programs.

The Endemol-Foursquare deal is reminiscent of the brouhaha last year involving a deal Twitter struck with production companies that got the blogosphere riled up about the possibility of a Twitter TV show. But co-founder Biz Stone played down the pact, which is becoming something of a perennial development for the company: Reuters reported last week that Twitter was developing a news network, which the company had to deny all over again.

So now all my meaningless check-ins could actually lead to something–are you listening, wife?
