Chicago Cop Fatally Shoots Two People While Responding to Domestic Disturbance
A Chicago police officer shot and killed two individuals while responding to reports of a domestic disturbance.
Antonio LeGrier told the Chicago Sun-Times his 19-year-old son Quintonio LeGrier was holding a baseball bat and aggressively banging it against a door. He called 57-year-old Bettie Jones, who lived in the same building downstairs, and warned her not to open the door until the police get there.
When the police arrived, Jones opened the door for the police. She ended up being shot moments later, and LeGrier’s son was shot dead as well.
Jones’ daughter said she woke up after hearing multiple gunshots and saw her mother on the ground, bleeding.
The Chicago Police Chief of Detectives released a statement saying that the officers were “confronted by a combative individual.” He said, “The matter is under investigation by the Independent Police Review Authority and further questions regarding this matter should be directed to them.”
The Chicago Police Department is under some intense scrutiny these days, as protesters have called for more police accountability after the release of the video of Laquan McDonald‘s shooting death.
