Adam Carolla Torches ‘Imbecile’ Dem Mayor Proposing Tax on Social Media Companies: ‘He Is F**king Horrible’
Adam Carolla trashed Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) as an “imbecile socialist” over his new proposal for a monthly tax on social media companies.
On Thursday’s edition of The Adam Carolla Show, Carolla reacted to Johnson’s recent announcement of his plan, which would require social media companies to pay 50 cents per month for every user over 100,000 in Chicago. The mayor claimed it will generate millions in income for the city and prevent taxes for “working class” Chicagoans from going up.
The money would be used to fund “free mental health clinics throughout Chicago and the expansion of mental health crisis response teams,” according to the mayor.
Carolla disapproved of even the name for the program: SMART (Social Media Amusement & Responsibility Tax).
“They gotta give it a happy acronym. Just like all of these government organizations that are like, ‘I work for children first.’ ‘What do you do?’ ‘I siphon money from the city and don’t anything for kids,'” the comedian said.
The name, he added, is to avoid looking like “f**king grifters.”
“By the way, everything has to do with the welfare of the kids and the addiction, but they never go, and no money! It’s always the kids, the kids, the kids, now give us money. It’s never just the kids,” he said.
Carolla noted that Johnson has faced low approval ratings since replacing former Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D). The Chicago Sun Times reported in August that Johnson had jumped in popularity — from less than 10% in popularity to 26%.
Johnson compared his new proposed tax to taxes already put on “addictive vices” like nicotine and alcohol.
“Just like we tax other addictive vices that are bad for our health, like nicotine and tobacco, it is far past time we treat social media companies the same way,” he said, adding that there needs to be “historic” investment in community safety programs or the federal government will use crime “as justification for military occupation of our city.”
“He is f**king horrible and angry and weird and sort of progressive and racist, and I don’t know what’s attractive about it. And I also don’t know why if Lori Lightfoot started running the city into the ground you would vote to finish running the city into the ground with this socialist imbecile,” Carolla said about Johnson.
He added about the tax:
Their plan is always if we could just get more money from people who earn money then we could fix all of this shit, but you can’t fix it because it’s like a social thing and no amount of money can fix it. All it does is exacerbate it and sort of prolongs it but it never really fixes because you never get to the root of any of the problems you claim you’re going to fix.
