Clay Aiken on Running for Congress: My Opponent Was A ‘Bitch’ With Low Self-Esteem
Today, Clay Aiken proved that, in an alternate universe where he won his congressional race in North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District, he could have replaced Steny Hoyer in the House Democratic leadership, because he would leave everyone whipped.
Aiken went on The Howard Stern Show this morning to promote his upcoming Esquire series The Runner-Up, a look behind the scenes of his 2014 congressional bid. Despite his victories in the Democratic primary, Aiken eventually lost to Republican Renee Ellmers by nearly 18 points.
During the interview, the American Idol runner-up decided to screw decorum, apparently. Via The Hill:
“You should see the second episode, because she’s a bitch,” Aiken told Stern, referring to Ellmers.
“She’s an idiot,” Aiken said of the 51-year-old lawmaker, “And I think her self-esteem is just in the floor, under the floor.”
At another point in the wide-ranging interview, Aiken, 36, referred to the lawmaker with a derogatory slang term for the female anatomy. “I’m not a fan of the person I ran against in Congress, obviously,” Aiken later said.
The thing is, now that she’s a congresswoman, Ellmers has an official press secretary, who can give quotes like this to The Hill:
“Mr. Aiken’s crude language and disrespectful demeanor towards the Congresswoman has proven to the American people why he is a runner up,” Blair Ellis told ITK.
We weep for what could have been.
