Kathleen Hartnett White is one of President Donald Trump’s more controversial nominees for a leadership roll in his administration. As director of the Armstrong Center for Energy and the Environment at the Texas Public Policy Foundation and the former chairman of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, she is considered a vocal advocate for the fossil fuel industry and has who expressed cynicism at a consensus of global warming science as a “kind of paganism.”
Enter Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D – Rhode Island) who grilled Ms. Hartnett White during a confirmation hearing and laid bare her apparent lack of understanding — or daresay intellectual curiosity — on some of the findings around climate science. As he tweeted the clip last night, he doesn’t know where to begin.” Watch the segment below:

Defenders of Hartnett White might argue that Whitehouse is trying to trap the nominee in a gotcha question about some minute specifics surrounding climate science, and to be fair, he does come off a little like the know-it-all character from Cheers Cliff Clavin, but by any measure, this is a pretty cringeworthy back and forth between Senator and nominee.
