Dem Rep. Eric Swalwell Confesses to ‘Unfairly Beating Up On’ Susan Collins: ‘She’s 1/51 of the Blame’

Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell of California apologized — kind of — to Republican Senator Susan Collins after he ripped her for voting to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
“A few weeks ago I made the mistake of taking my #Kavanaugh frustration out on Senator Susan Collins. That was wrong,” Swalwell tweeted Sunday night. “Guys, she’s 1/51 of the blame. If we’re not also calling out @tedcruz, @DeanHeller and the other men responsible, we’re just unfairly beating up on a woman.”

Collins took flack last week after she announced her support for Kavanaugh, whose nomination was derailed after women came forward with sexual misconduct allegations against the now-justice.
Swalwell sparked controversy when he mockingly responded to a story about threats against Collins, tweeting “Boo hoo hoo.” He eventually deleted the tweet and apologized: “Sexual assault victims deserve respect. And senators shouldn’t be threatened by the public. I said something stupid and minimized ugly behavior. That tweet is deleted and I’m sorry for that.”
Many condemned Collins for turning her back on women amid the #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct, and her vote even resulted in millions of dollars being raised for the senator’s challenger next time she is up for reelection.
