Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman Will Retire at End of Term

On Thursday morning, The Washington Post reported that Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) has decided to retire at the end of this congressional session.

After his retirement, the West Los Angeles-based lawmaker will have served 20 full terms in the U.S. House, having started in 1975. “Forty years have gone by very quickly. I have a great deal of satisfaction in our legislative accomplishments. There’s obviously more to be done,” the 74-year-old told the Post. “But I’m in good health, and my family is in good health. This is a good time to move on and have another chapter if I am to do anything after Congress.”

Waxman’s most recent legislative victory was his efforts in pushing through the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
