Dewey Defeats Brady: Boston Globe‘s Early Headline Implied That the Patriots Lost

There’s been a running theme through a number of our posts recapping Sunday night’s Super Bowl. Whether it’s been with political pundits who put out premature tweets just as they did on election night, or tennis stars who were so certain Atlanta was going to win that they agreed to go on a date with a fan in the event New England won,

Add The Boston Globe to the list of people and entities who thought the Pats were finished. The paper put out an early edition on Sunday night prior to the conclusion of the game, which implied that New England had lost.

As we did in our other posts on the subject, we’ll again cite ESPN’s win probability statistic — which gave the Falcons a 99.6 percent chance of victory at one point. But the four in one thousand chance of a comeback materialized.

All that said, we suspect most of the Globe‘s readers won’t be too upset with the paper, given their likely euphoria over the improbable victory.
