Feel Good Moment: Little Leaguers Console Pitcher Despondent After Giving Up Game-Winning Hit
There’s no crying in baseball!
Except in the Little League World Series…when you give up a crushing game-winning hit…and it leads to a supremely cool moment of sportsmanship.
On Monday night, Venezuela’s Omar Romero drove in the game-winning run with a triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Venezuela defeated the Dominican Republic 3-2.
Dominican Republic pitcher Edward Uceta was just gutted. He collapsed face first on the grass beside the mound, and was crying profusely.
But then, coaches and players from the opposing team — the victorious Venezuelan side — came over to console him in what was an absolutely touching moment. Two coaches lifted Uceta from the ground and hugged him. The players soon joined in. Mere seconds after their jubilant celebration, the Venezuelan team stopped to make sure the opposing pitcher was okay.
And Uceta was eventually in better spirits. He gathered his composure in time to join his teammates in the traditional postgame handshake line — where more hugs awaited.
