Football Gambler Misses Out on $100K Payoff on $5 Wager By Just One Point
This one’s a bad beat for the ages.
Darren Rovell of ESPN reports that a football gambler lost out on a potential six-figure payoff on a $5 wager because the New England Patriots won by seven points on Monday night against Baltimore. Had they won by eight or more, the unidentified gambler would’ve cashed in to the tune of $100,000.
A bettor who needed the Patriots to win by MORE than 7 has lost his 15-leg $5 parlay from William Hill sportsbook. Would have made $100,000.

The bettor correctly picked the winner against the point spread of 14 other games. Monday night’s Patriots-Ravens game was the 15th and final game of the parlay. The gambler took New England -7. The Pats won 30-23, resulting in a push.
That wasn’t good enough, according to Rovell. A push, per the terms of this particular wager, is as good as a loss. And the gambler didn’t even get the initial $5 back.
Recent polling suggests that the Patriots have supplanted the Cowboys as America’s least favorite team. Based on last night’s result, this is, quite likely, a sentiment with which one gambler will now concur.
