George Harrison Memorial Tree Meets a Rather Ironic End

Ten years ago, Beatle George Harrison was honored in Los Angeles with a memorial tree planted at the Griffith Observatory, three years after Harrison passed away. There’s just one snag: The tree died recently because of… a beetle infestation.

Yes, beetles killed a tree dedicated to a former Beatle.

According to the L.A. Times, Councilman Tom LaBonge explained the tree will have to be replanted because of the insect infestation. The tree grew to over ten feet tall, but apparently “the tree beetle onslaught was too much for the tree.”

The tree featured a plaque with a fond remembrance from Harrison as well as the following quote from the Beatle: “For the forest to be green, each tree must be green.”
