To commemorate the Fourth of July, House of Cards released a teaser ahead of its sixth and final season featuring its new president, Claire Underwood.
The twelve-second ad shows the former First Lady (played by Robin Wright) sitting on Lincoln Memorial seat speaking directly to the camera.
“Happy Independence Day… to me,” Claire Underwood proudly declared.
The ad closes with #MyTurn.
This was obviously a nod to the turbulent firing of Kevin Spacey after he was accused of sexual misconduct and child molestation last fall. Production was halted after allegations surfaced in the wake of the #MeToo movement. Spacey starred as the ruthless President Frank Underwood for five seasons. Ultimately, the show’s producers decided to carry on with the show without its star. And it was reported after his firing that Spacey also acted inappropriately on the set of the Emmy-winning drama.
This week, Spacey was accused of sexual assault by three more men in England and investigations are already underway.
The final season of House of Cards is set to appear on Netflix later this year. It will run only eight episodes.
