In Spite of Criticism From Trump Camp, Washington Post Is Actually Growing in Size
During the campaign season, the Washington Post reported thoroughly on Donald Trump, which is what is to be expected of a leading national newspaper when it comes to the Republican nominee. Trump and his team didn’t like it, of course, and certain WaPo writers were branded “biased” while he said that the reporters there didn’t know anything about him.
They know something about growing a profit, though. WaPo is reportedly hiring more than five dozen new journalists, according to Politico. They wrote that the Post became the fourth biggest national paper because of “its audience growth, in the ambitiousness of its journalism, in its impact on the American conversation.”
Publisher and CEO Fred Ryan said that the paper is “profitable and growing” in a memo earlier this month. He then added that there is enough profit to add new “initiatives,” which have turned out to be, in part, all these new jobs. Beyond that, Ryan has stated that there will be investments in mobile videos.
Politico is guessing that about 60 new jobs will be added, growing the newsroom by about 8%.
The real question is which of the reporters will be first to join their new colleagues in having their credentials taken away by the Trump team.
