Jake Tapper to Trump Supporter: He Is ‘Surrounded by a Philanderers Club’

tapperCNN’s Jake Tapper asked Trump supporter Kayleigh McEnany if it was a wise tactic for the campaign to invoke Bill Clinton’s past affairs, given Trump’s own infidelities and the fact that the candidate was “surrounded by a philanderers club.”

Tapper was referring to a leaked talking points memo, instructing Trump surrogates to mention Clinton’s scandals involving women, and to comments made Thursday on The View by Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, in which she did just that.

“It doesn’t seem to me that Donald Trump, whose extramarital exploits filled tabloid after tabloid in the ’80s and ’90s and more, has really that much of a moral high ground when it comes to the question of his rival’s husband‘s infidelity. What am I missing here?” Tapper asked.

McEnany clarified that Trump himself shouldn’t bring it up during a debate, since that would only make Clinton look good onstage, but that the people around him should be doing it.

“Which people ‘around him’ should bring it up?” Tapper asked. “Roger Alies? Steve Bannon? Rudy Giuliani? Newt Gingrich? I mean, he is surrounded by a philanderer’s club. Why would any of these people have any leg to stand on when it comes to this sort of thing?”
