John McCain No Longer Trusts Top Military Authority On Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

 

This is a little bit cringe-inducing to watch: John McCain on Meet The Press, trying to squirm his way out of a 2006 statement he made whereby he agreed that if military leaders thought that repealing the ban of gays in the military was a good idea, he’d seriously consider it. Except now it’s 2010, General David Petraeus doesn’t think that soldiers would care about the sexual identity of their troops, Admiral Mike Mullen thinks allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly would be “the right thing to do,” and yet suddenly John McCain doesn’t give two squats what these top brass have to say. Because at the end of the day, it’s all about the common man, you know? Private Joe Plumber.
