Jon Karl to Spicer: Does Trump’s ‘Liberal Activist’ Tweet Mean GOP Town Hall Anger is All ‘Manufactured?’
ABC’s Jon Karl attended Wednesday’s White House Press Briefing, where he asked Sean Spicer about how President Trump has dismissed recent protests against GOP congressmen by saying they are orchestrated by “liberal activists.”
In the last several days, multiples GOPers have used the current Congressional recess to hold town hall events with constituents, only to be confronted by angry citizens challenging them about the current state of politics on Capitol Hill. Karl asked Spicer today if the administration thought that the commotion was all due to “manufactured anger” as opposed to any real concerns from town hall goers.
Spicer argued that there was a “hybrid” of concerned citizens and professional protesters who travel to various Congressional districts just to make noise and grab media attention. Karl pushed back by asking if Trump recognized that there is “real anger” from those with concerns like losing coverage from Obamacare, though Spicer responded claiming that to be a “false narrative.”
Spicer went on to defend the Trump administration’s efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, all while saying that the original plan was rolled out too quickly and cannot be sustained within the health care system.
In the past, Spicer has described anti-Trump demonstrations as the work of paid protesters.
