New York Knicks owner James Dolan got into a heated verbal altercation with a season ticket holder on Tuesday night, where he apparently called his own customer an “asshole.”

According to Deadspin, Dolan admitted he cursed out the fan prior to Tuesday night’s Knicks game against the Chicago Bulls.

“I did call him an asshole,” Dolan said. “Because he is an asshole.”

According to the report, the fan, 35-year-old Mike Hamersky, yelled “Sell the team, Jim!” at the owner.

Dolan countered by saying, “What if I showed up at your office and called you an asshole? Because you are an asshole!”

He defended his actions to Deadspin:

Some people tend to think of team owners like politicians. But we’re not! I didn’t run for any office. These people who yell at you act surprised when you yell back. It’s like when I got that incredibly derogatory email, and so I wrote back an incredibly derogatory email, and these people are surprised?

Dolan has been in the news quite a bit recently. A Donald Trump campaign donor, Dolan arranged for the Rockettes to perform at the president’s inauguration. He also banned former Knicks great Charles Oakley from Madison Square Garden after an altercation with arena security, although that ban has since been lifted.
