Louisiana GOP Chair Calls for Resignation of Kissing Congressman

Rep. Vance McAllister (R-LA) was in Congress for less than six months before he encountered his very first congressional scandal. Now it looks like he may not have a career in office long enough to encounter a second one.

A recently released video taken last December showed the McAllister, 40 and married with children, kissing a 33-year-old staffer. The video set off a firestorm and prompted the congressman to apologize and ask “forgiveness from God” and his family. That, apparently, is not enough for Louisiana Republican Party Chairman Roger Villere.

“Mr. McAllister’s extreme hypocrisy is an example of why ordinary people are fed up with politics. A breach of trust of this magnitude can only be rectified by an immediate resignation,” Villere said in a statment on Thursday. “He has embarrassed our party, our state and the institution of Congress.”

The staffer McAllister was caught kissing resigned this week from the congressional payroll. Now, questions persist about whether McAllister will seek his election to a full term in Congress in November.
