Man Who Climbed Trump Tower with Suction Cups Avoids Jail Time For Now

Back in August of 2016, a simpler time, Stephen Rogata scaled Trump Tower with suction cups, and he did it quite well in spite of having only practiced once. For at least a couple hours, he was an internet and media sensation, but he had to answer to it in court. WABC-TV in New York reports that on Monday morning, Rogata pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment stemming from his “Spiderman” stunt six months ago.
The terms of Rogata’s deal are as follows:
- He must undergo mental health treatment at a specified treatment center near his home in Virginia.
- Every month, he must write a letter updating the court on how his treatment is going.
- Over the course of the next year, he must be enrolled in college as a full-time student or be working at least 20 hours a week.
- He’s required to stay away from President Donald Trump and Trump Tower for the next year.
- He can’t be arrested during the next year.
- If he abides by all of the above, Rogata will have permanently avoided jail time in the case and the reckless endangerment charge will be dropped.
- If he violates any of the terms, Rogata could spend up to a year in jail.
Rogata would not comment on the case upon leaving the courthouse.
