Michael Dukakis Hoards Turkey Carcasses and Twitter Can’t Handle It (UPDATED)
Former Massachusetts Governor and Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis appeared on CNN to profess his love for turkey carcasses, which he hoards to make soup. Twitter caught wind of this and lots its collective mind.
The Boston Globe broke the news the day before Thanksgiving in an interview with Dukakis.
“Throwing out a turkey carcass is sinful. Absolutely sinful,” he said. “It’s a terrible thing to do. There’s so much richness and goodness in a turkey carcass, God.”
CNN anchor John Berman spoke with Dukakis about the interview and his beloved turkey carcasses on Friday.
“You were a three-term governor of Massachusetts. The Democratic nominee for president,” Berman stated before asking point-blank: “Why do you hoard turkey carcasses?”
Dukakis explained that his mother used to make turkey soup from the carcass following Thanksgiving, and it quickly became one of his favorite meals. He continued the tradition when he raised his own family, even requesting that friends and relatives not throw away their turkey carcasses so that he could freeze them for later use.
Naturally, the slow news day suddenly found a new focus. The resulting Dukakis/turkey carcass frenzy sent Twitter into a tailspin of confusion, humor and horror.
