Mosque of Orlando Shooter ‘Intentionally’ Torched the Night Before Islamic Holiday

First, Eid Mubarak to everyone who celebrates today.

Second, there are some in the Muslim community whose celebrations were derailed this morning because they awoke to find that their mosque had been lit on fire. Investigators have now deemed the fire arson.

Why would a person or group set out to torch a mosque in Fort Pierce, Florida, the night before Islam’s holiest holiday? Well, the man who committed the largest mass shooting in American history earlier this summer in Orlando just so happened to pray there.

The mosque posted the following to Facebook this morning:

According to a fundraising page, the mosque’s imam is away on the Hajj pilgrimage with his wife, which makes repairs and regrouping even more difficult for the faith community.

Following the mass shooting that was carried out by one of the Fort Pierce center’s congregants, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump called for the monitoring of mosques around the country. He has mentioned an interest in surveilling them before.
