Mr. T Fondly Remembers Pal and Colleague Nancy Reagan
Mr. T has been a lot of things to a lot of people. He’s been a Halloween costume to some. To others, he’s been a gold-wearing icon. To fans in the street, he’s been a good-natured recipient of banality for years. To the late First Lady Nancy Reagan, he was a friend and business partner. (If you find the partnership strange, just remember that Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsberg were besties.)
T and Reagan were together on the front lines of the “War on Drugs,” which has long been seen by many as controversial, ineffective, and unjust. To them, though, it was an important cause that required support from a variety of markers along the spectrums of fame and influence. T appeared in a number of commercials for the First Lady’s pet project, using her famous slogan, “Just say no!” Other times, he recorded entire music videos (with New Edition!) for the cause:
He loaded up his Twitter app to mourn the passing of Reagan, saying the following:
I mourn the death of First Lady Nancy Reagan, who was Very Special to me….

…Not only did she invite me to the White House in December ’83, after meeting with her and President Ronald Reagan,…
— Mr. T (@MrT) March 7, 2016
…she then asked me to help her with her “Just Say No” program which I gladly accepted with humility and honor….
— Mr. T (@MrT) March 7, 2016
…That was the highlight of my career to be asked to work with the First Family on such a great cause. It wasn’t political because…
— Mr. T (@MrT) March 7, 2016
…I am not a Republican nor am I a Democrat….
— Mr. T (@MrT) March 7, 2016
…But I am just a Christian Brother from the Hood trying to do some good! I will truly miss First Lady Nancy Reagan….
— Mr. T (@MrT) March 7, 2016
…I will Never Forget her….
— Mr. T (@MrT) March 7, 2016
…I will continue her work in trying to keep kids from the Dangers of Drugs. GOD Bless You First Lady.

He called working with the Reagans on their drug project — no, not that drug project — the “highlight of [his] career,” which even the fiercest opponents of the War on Drugs can agree is a sweet thing to say.
