Nikki Haley Breaks From Trump Legal Team on Whether Mueller Probe Should Be Shut Down: ‘No, Not At All’

Without rival, U.N ambassador Nikki Haley has been the member of President Donald Trump‘s cabinet who has been most outspoken — and most likely to stray from the Commander in Chief’s stance on a given issue. And on Sunday, Haley once again broke with the president — this time on an issue of paramount importance to him: The question of whether Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s probe should continue, or be shut down.

Appearing on CBS Sunday Morning, Haley said that Mueller should see the investigation through.

“No, not at all,” Haley said — when asked if the probe should be terminated. “I mean, anything that comes like this, it should play its part. It should go through the process.

The U.N. ambassador, though, didn’t stray completely from the company line.

“But they need to do it quickly,” Haley said. “For the good of the country this investigation needs to happen quickly.”

Earlier in the interview, correspondent Rita Braver put Haley on the spot — asking about the president’s behavior.

“What do you say to people who say, ‘Okay, maybe he’s done some things right, but his behavior is sometimes reprehensible?'” Braver said. “Do you ever think that?”

“First of all, he has his communication style, but you’re not hearing me defend that,” Haley said. “What I will tell you is, if there is anything that he communicates in a way that I’m uncomfortable with, I pick up the phone and call him. I don’t need to be public about that. I think that’s a private conversation that should happen when I feel it, and I think it’s one that he’s receptive to when I do.”
