NRA Tells Members to ‘Steer Clear’ of Dallas Restaurant Supporting ‘Gun Regulations’
With the NRA convention underway in Dallas this week, the group called out one local restaurant for its message in support of gun control.
Ellen’s appended a message on the bottom of receipts saying a portion of the proceeds will be going to “organizations dedicated to implementing reasonable and effective gun regulations.”
The NRA responded yesterday with this message:
Attn @AnnualMeetings attendees. Steer clear of Ellen’s in downtown Dallas! Why go there when there are so many other great choices. ?#sorrynotsorry #StandAndFight #DefendTheSecond pic.twitter.com/joX7pPoPm4

As CBSDFW reported (video above), the restaurant received some serious negative feedback.
The message on the receipt was later updated to include language emphasizing the protection of people’s Second Amendment rights:
Downtown #Dallas restaurant welcomes #NRA with what it hopes is pro #2ndAmendment message & common sense regulations to stop #gun violence on receipt. Story at 10 p.m. on @CBSDFW #NRAAM2018 #NRA2018 #NRAAM #NRAconvention pic.twitter.com/X7MF4VuCPS

According to Fox 4 News, owner Joe Groves posted to Facebook about “vile, racist moronic conversations” he heard from NRA members, but also said, “We believe in the 2nd Amendment. We also believe that patriotic people can come together to find solutions to end needless gun violence. That’s all we are proposing.”
