Obama Blasts ‘Political Leaders’ For ‘Utter Loss of Shame’ in South Africa Speech

Former President Barack Obama is weighing in on the current political landscape. And he does not like what he sees.

During an address in South Africa on Tuesday, the ex-president — without naming names — swiped at “political leaders” for taking extreme liberties with the truth.

“Unfortunately, too much of politics today seems to reject the very concept of objective truth,” Obama said. “People just make stuff up…we see the utter loss of shame among political leaders where they’re caught in a lie and they just double down and they lie some more.”

Earlier in his address, the former president drew laughter from the audience as he discussed the importance of believing in facts. But despite the reaction of the audience, Obama didn’t really seem to be jokes.

“This is another one of those things that I didn’t think I had to lecture about,” Obama said. “You have to believe in facts…If I say, ‘this is a podium,’ and you say, ‘this is an elephant,’ it’s gonna be hard for us to cooperate.”
