Obama on Sharpton: ‘You Can Do Business with That Guy’

Following a highly flattering and lengthy Politico profile on Rev. Al Sharpton, the New York Times followed with its own piece on the MSNBC primetime host.

The Times article details Sharpton’s busy and blurred career as both an activist and cable news personality. And, like the Politico profile, it homes in on Sharpton’s cozy relationship with the White House.

President Barack Obama is quoted in the Times piece as saying about Sharpton, “You can do business with that guy.”

More from the profile:

For now, Mr. Sharpton is seeking what he described as real reform on police accountability while his stars are aligned. He is trying to enjoy the good days. And for him, these are very good days.

“I can call a march and thousands come out, and I happen to have access to the White House at the same time,” he said. “This is a very unique time. Let’s see where it goes.”

In addition to his media gigs, Sharpton is leading rallies in Ferguson, MO, related to the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
