President Barack Obama addressed Monday’s report that a drone had crashed on the White House lawn, calling it one that you would find at Radio Shack. The quad copter drone, which was found to have been the property of a non-White House government employee, was discovered at around 3 a.m. on Monday morning.
In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Obama said he has asked the FAA and other government agencies to further examine how to handle new technology like drones. He notably mentioned how Amazon wants to use drones to deliver packages, and that drone regulations are needed. The president also said he wants to create a plan to “get the good and minimize the bad” of these programs.
“We don’t really have any kind of regulatory structure at all,” Obama said. “The drone that landed in the White House you buy in Radio Shack.”
The Secret Service is investigating the incident.
