O’Reilly Issues Correction Over Guest Who Was Identified as Swedish National Security Adviser

Tonight Bill O’Reilly addressed the controversy over a guest who appeared on his program last week during a segment about immigration in Sweden.

The guest in question, Nils Bildt, was introduced by O’Reilly last week as “a Swedish Defense and National Security Advisor.” (That was how the chyron identified him too.)

However, Bildt later provided a statement to Mediaite saying the following:

Suffice to say I am an independent political advisor. Fox News is solely responsible for the header or title used. I cannot comment on that. Sorry for any confusion caused, but needless to say I think that is not really the issue, the issue is Swedish refusal to discuss their social problems and issues.

O’Reilly brought up the criticism raised online and said after looking into the matter, he’s concluded “the criticism is valid.”

While the information presented in the segment was accurate, he concluded, “we should have clarified that he had no direct role in the Swedish government.”

O’Reilly added that they reached out to the Swedish ambassador to come on the show and he declined.
