National Security Adviser John Bolton met with Vladimir Putin today ahead of a summit between Putin and President Donald Trump.
Putin said in the meeting, “It’s a matter of great regret that relations between Russia and U.S. are not in the best of shape. I have said publicly on many occasions and I would like to reiterate again that it is the result of acute political battles in the U.S.”
As investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election continue, Putin has repeatedly dismissed the idea, telling Megyn Kelly earlier this year that Russians indicted for meddling could have been working for Americans.
He’s also said the collusion allegations against Trump and his campaign are “all invented by those in opposition to Trump to make his work seem illegitimate.”
The Russian government also announced on Wednesday that they had agreed to a summit between Trump and Putin, the time and date of which is expected to be announced tomorrow.
