Rand Paul Has the Answer to Heroin Epidemic: Jobs

PicMonkey Collage - PaulRand Paul spoke with constituents at a New Hampshire town hall today, where he talked about the problems people have told him about while trying to find work. Paul decided to bring up the national drug epidemic as an example, but instead of recommending rehabilitation or psychological therapy, Paul said that fixing the matter is as simple as putting them to work.

“People always come up to me and say, ‘We got heroin problems and all these other problems,'” said Paul. “You know what? If you work all day long, you don’t have time to do heroin.”

Paul gave his statement in the midst of a discussion on how he wishes to eliminate the national welfare system, while promoting work as a national virtue. Paul noted that some people suffer from truly debilitating problems that affect their working ability, but re-emphasized how there’s still plenty of ways those people can still work.

“We need to attach work to everything. I don’t think any able-bodied person in America should get a penny unless they work,” Paul said. “No handouts, no gifts, no welfare. Everything should have work.”

CNN reported that later in the town hall, Paul recognized America’s heroin problem again, where he called for treatment instead of imprisonment for non-violent users. “We need to treat it more as a health problem and less as an incarceration problem,” Paul said.
