Reader’s Digest Pledges $5 Million Granting Stimulus Packages To Needy Towns
In honor of Reader’s Digest itself, we’ll keep this short. Your mom’s favorite magazine is launching a new campaign called “We Hear You America” that will give $5 million worth of “promotion and financial support” to 100 different American towns, cities, and citizens. Prospective “WHYA” recipients can log onto rd.com, the mag’s website, and follow these instructions:
Individuals are encouraged to upload photos of their towns, describe their needs, talk about why their towns are “Best in America” or even comment on other submissions. The Reader’s Digest “We Hear You America” program will provide stimulus to the towns that “cheer” the loudest (receive the most votes).
Additionally, as an added incentive, individuals will be entered into a sweepstakes to win a family vacation to anywhere in the continental U.S. and a brand new car to take them there.
Of course, there’s more to this initiative than pure altruism. In mid-January, the next phase of WHYA will kick off when the magazine launches its “100 towns in 100 days U.S. tour,” which will happen to coincide with RD‘s big digital platform relaunch (they’re introducing an iPad app, a new electronic newsletter, and a new version of the magazine available only on the website).
According to Reader’s Digest Community president Lisa Sharples, “We aim to provide the greatest value to our community while offering our content to the nation in any format that they want, whenever they want it.” At least their big promotional push will also do some good.
