REPORT: Trump to Select Steven Mnuchin as Treasury Secretary

steve-mnuchineditedThe New York Times is reporting that President-elect Donald Trump has decided on film producer and former Goldman Sachs banker Steven Mnuchin to be the next Secretary of Treasury.

Mnuchin worked as the Trump campaign’s national finance chairman and had been considered a favorite for the position for some time. The transition team recommended him earlier this month.

As the NYT highlighted, Mnuchin’s position as a well-connected financier flies in the face of his ‘Drain the Swamp’ rhetoric.

His selection fits uneasily with much of Mr. Trump’s campaign rhetoric attacking the financial industry. Mr. Trump, in a campaign ad intended as a closing argument, portrayed the chief executive of Goldman Sachs as the personification of a global elite that the ad said had “robbed our working class.”

It is reported that Trump is expected to make the announcement as early as tomorrow.
