Republicans to Maintain Control of House of Representatives

NBC News projects that the Republican Party will maintain control of the House of Representatives.

Republicans were long favored to keep control of the lower house of Congress. RealClearPolitics predicted Monday that there were 225 seats that were Solid Republican, Likely Republican, or Leans Republican, seven more than the 218 required to control the House.

In remains to be seen the exact number of seats Republicans will hold onto, but they will almost certainly end up with fewer than the 247 seats they control currently. Democrats are already predicted to pick up at least two more seats, with 20 additional seats classified as toss-ups by RCP.

Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has indicated that he intends to  hold onto that office in the coming term.
