Rick Santorum Loses it on Jeffrey Toobin Over SCOTUS Bakery Case: ‘Quit Trying to Be Extremist!’

Rick Santorum lost it on Jeffrey Toobin Tuesday on CNN in a heated clash over the Supreme Court case involving a baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple.

In a debate which took place moments before the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings got underway, Santorum exploded after Toobin said that the hearings will help answer the question, “May bakers and other small business owners say to gay people, ‘You’re not allowed in here’ and the Court says that’s okay?”

“Stop,” Santorum said. “The idea that there’s a contention that bakers don’t allow gay people in their shops, that has never been the issue, and it’s not the issue. And you’re distorting it!”

The former Pennsylvania Senator added, “quit trying to be extremist on these things when that’s not the issue, and you know it’s not the issue!”

“I totally know it’s the issue!” Toobin replied.

Toobin fought back after Santorum argued, “No one is saying you can’t walk in and buy a cupcake in a bakery, nowhere. No one!”

“How about when an inn owner says my inn is a product of my artistic and personal vision so an inn owner says I don’t want gay people staying here?” Toobin said, presenting a hypothetical. “That’s what the next case is about.”

The CNN legal analyst added, “Rick, you keep saying these cases are so easy. Watch what happens. Watch how gay people are being denied service.”
