Rumsfeld: I Have ‘Absolutely No Idea’ If My Tax Returns Are Accurate
When Donald Rumsfeld submits his tax returns to the IRS every year, he apparently includes a letter stating he has “absolutely no idea” whether he has filed his forms correctly. This year, he decided to tweet out an image of the letter as a kind of public protest against the complexity of the tax code.
That I & most Americans have no idea whether our taxes are accurate tells us something. My annual letter to the #IRS: pic.twitter.com/BFh0AXTvAk

As Rumsfeld explains, despite the fact that he is a college graduate (not to mention a former U.S. defense secretary), he resents the fact that he cannot make heads or tails of how much money he owes the federal government.
“I do hope that at some point in my lifetime, and I am now in my 80s, so there are not many years left,” Rumsfeld writes, “the U.S. government will simplify the U.S. tax code so that those citizens who sincerely want to pay what they should, are able to do it right, and know that they have done it right.”
