Sen. Lindsey Graham is hopeful that Donald Trump can stay on message and “close the gap” with Hillary Clinton, noting that the new AP report on the Clinton Foundation is a “gift from the political gods,” if only Trump knows how to leverage it.
“If Mr. Trump can up his game — and he is, he’s doing much better,” Graham said on Fox Wednesday afternoon. “If he can control — if he can close the gap I think the chance of keeping the Senate goes up.”
The Clinton report “reeks of wrong, it reeks of insider benefits, the inside versus the outside, and Trump represents the outside and he’s in a pretty good spot,” he said.
If he could just modulate his “temperament” and demonstrate his “judgment,” he could pull through for the GOP, Graham added.
It’s been a wild ride for Graham. Over the past year Graham has condemned, endorsed, un-endorsed and then encouraged other Republicans to un-endorse Trump. He said in May that Trump’s foreign policy would “lead to another 9/11.”
