Speaker Boehner Scolds Romney For Criticizing President Obama While He’s Abroad
Speaker of the House John Boehner took Republican hopeful Mitt Romney to task for criticizing President Obama while he’s traveling abroad.
“Clearly while the president is overseas, he’s at a conference and while the president is overseas I think it’s appropriate that people not be critical of him or our country,” Boehner chided, responding to a question from NBC News about whether Romney was correct to call Russia America’s “number one geopolitical foe.”
“Russia is not a friendly character on the world stage, and for this president to be looking for greater flexibility, where he doesn’t have to answer to the American people in his relations with Russia is very, very troubling, very alarming,” Romney said Monday to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “I’m very, very concerned.”
Politico’s Alexander Burns observes that Speaker Boehner is the only elected House Republican leader who hasn’t endorsed Romney.
