Robert Durst, a real estate magnate who has been suspected of three murders in the past forty years and was the subject of a recent HBO documentary, was arrested in New Orleans Saturday night in connection with a homicide investigation.
Durst has been implicated in three murders, beginning with his wife’s in 1982, followed by his associate in 2000, a witness in the investigation of his wife’s disappearance. Durst was tried for the 2001 murder of his neighbor, whose body was found dismembered in Galveston Bay, and acquitted on self defense.
Durst, member of an extraordinarily wealthy New York real estate family, was arrested in New Orleans on a Los Angeles warrant, though no further details had been released at press time.
The last episode of the six-part HBO series airs tonight, and director Andrew Jarecki has teased that the viewer should know whether Durst did it by the end.
