The Academy Addresses Joan Rivers’ Absence from ‘In Memoriam’ Reel
Social media lit up after Joan Rivers––an icon whose name was synonymous with big, glamorous Hollywood events and was always on the red carpet on awards night––was left out of the Oscars “In Memoriam” reel last night. Well, today the Academy addressed the snub in a statement.
In the statement, provided to The L.A. Times, the Academy says, “Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year’s Oscar show. She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com.”
And yes, Rivers is featured on the Oscars website in the long In Memoriam list.
Thought quite frankly, this was the sentiment of many on Twitter last night:
