People these days are desperate to keep their phones at full power, and on Friday, someone broke theater etiquette by desperately trying to charge his phone with a fake outlet.
An audience member at Broadway’s Hand to God climbed onto the stage before the show started and attempted to plug a cell phone charger into a non-working outlet that was part of the set. Cast member Steven Boyer told the Hollywood Reporter that the jumper was heckled back to his seat by fellow attendees, his phone returned by a crew member, and the stage manager had to make a statement.
“Please do not get on the stage,” Boyer said, describing the PA. “We do not come into your home and sit on your furniture, and it is of course, a non-working outlet. If you come on the stage again, the police will be called.”
Boyer went on to say that his previous career as a stand-up comedian helped him to retain his focus throughout the show, but that the incident left him deeply frustrated.
“I don’t know why that person wasn’t just thrown out,” Boyer said. “People should just know that we can see them. The audience may be judging the actors onstage; we’re judging the audience just as much.”
Boyer’s co-stars Sarah Stiles and Marc Kudisch made their own statements as well, warning their Twitter followers not to follow the jumper’s example.
A guy jumped on the stage and plugged his phone into the fake outlet on our set just before we started. @HandtoGodBway #fullmoon or #idiot ?

Dear general audience, an electrical socket that's a part of the set of the play is NOT for you to charge your iPhone…..just an FYI…..
