Today Is #MuteMonday, But What Does That Mean For You (and Donald Trump)?

Have you noticed any mentions of #MuteMonday trickling down your Twitter timeline this weekend? The hashtag was started by the feminist newsletter Signal Boost in an effort to curb Donald Trump‘s Twitter habit, according to Cosmopolitan, and seems to be the next move for anyone feeling energized by this weekend’s huge women’s marches.

The action is simple: Unfollow and block @realDonaldTrump and @POTUS on Twitter, follow “someone working towards the progress we all still believe in,” instead, and then tweet about who you chose to follow using #MuteMonday.

The idea is, of course, that Trump will lose followers on the platform he uses to communicate about the “dishonest” media and sportswear companies. Tweeting is a big part of Trump’s public persona, which he justifies by saying it’s more direct than relying on the media. If fewer people pay attention to his tweets, he’ll have to do real press conferences.

The idea is really resonating with a lot of people.

Losing the followers might not end up being a big deal to Trump, who has millions of them, but gaining those followers could be huge for progressive organizations and causes.
