Trayvon Martin Attorney: Family ‘Outraged’ That Zimmerman’s ‘Self-Serving’ Apology Helped Secure Bail

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin‘s family, said the family was “outraged” by George Zimmerman‘s “self-serving” apology during his bond hearing on Friday morning.

Martin’s father, Tracy Martin, he said, was especially upset. “All throughout the hearing, Tracy Martin had tears in his eyes as he watched the killer of his son,” Crump said. “And it was devastating that he got to give a self-serving apology to help him get a bond. They were outraged about that.”

During the hearing, Zimmerman addressed the family, saying:

I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son. I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am and I did not know if he was armed or not.

Saying “it was very painful,” Crump explained that Martin’s family did not want to speak with Zimmerman ahead of the trial.
