Retired neurosurgeon and former presidential candidate Ben Carson stirred up controversy when he invoked the name of Lucifer while attacking Hillary Clinton (twice), but Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has eliminated any middlemen by simply referring to Clinton as “The Devil” in a pair of speeches in Iowa Thursday, one in Davenport, the other in Cedar Rapids.
While Carson simply mentioned that someone who may have influenced Hillary wrote an acknowledgement to Lucifer, Trump flat-out called Hillary “the Devil,” whom allegedly exhausted Senator Bernie Sanders made a deal with:
Trump’s use of the metaphor is tough to swallow as a coincidence, since both Iowa rallies featured lengthy and explicit appeals to evangelical voters to close each speech.
