Fox’s Joey Jones Battles Republican Senator Over GOP Failing to Pass SAVE America Act

Fox News anchor Joey Jones pressed Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KY) on Saturday for a good reason why Republicans senators cannot get the SAVE America Act passed, despite President Donald Trump urging GOP lawmakers to get it hammered out before they took a five-week summer recess.

Jones said it was unacceptable the Republican senators were heading to vacation after failing to get the act — which would require ID to vote in federal elections — pushed through.

“It’s not Democrats that’s stopping the SAVE America Act from getting voted on and passing, it’s your Republican colleagues,” Jones told Marshall during an appearance on The Big Weekend Show.

He then asked if Marshall could be “honest and truthful” if he believed the act will ever become law, without major changes.

Marshall admitted it’s an “uphill battle,” before taking a moment to defend his fellow Republican senators.

“I want to at least set the record straight here — yesterday, all 52 Republicans voted in favor of voter ID, and there’s a subversion of the SAVE Act that we can get at least 50 votes [on] as well,” Marshall protested. “You and I both know we should be talking about the Democrats right now. We cannot get one Democrat to vote in favor of voter ID, let alone proof of citizenship or doing anything with mail-in ballots. So I don’t understand why we want to pick on the Republicans.”

Jones started to jump in and tell him it was an “easy” thing to address, but Marshall kept going.

“If you’ll let me finish,” Marshall told him, before saying the “big issue” was changing the filibuster rules.

Jones told him he wasn’t sure what the right approach was to the filibuster, but he said as an average American the country’s elections appear “more and more fraudulent” each year.

“There are pieces of it that I understand concern, but you’re not having that debate,” Jones continued. “The debate is on whether or not these three or four of your colleagues will come to the table and put their vote out into the daylight and take all the arrows for it.”

He was referring to Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), who have all repeatedly joined Democrats to block the SAVE act.

Jones added, “The reason why we’re talking about Republicans is because I expect Democrats to let me down on legislation I believe in.” He said those senators should have to answer for voting against a popular piece of legislation, which is supported by about 80% of Americans.
